Littlest Pet Shop (abbreviated as LPS) was a toy brand created in 1992 by Kenner, an American toy company founded in 1946.
No one cared about them.
Okay. Untrue. The line continued until 1996, 11 collections split into 57 assortments were created for the toy line with the final release of the Splashtime Pets harolding an end to the Littlest Pet Shop Brand. In 1991, Kenner had been bought by Hasbro and by 2000 the toy company had been fully closed and merged with the toy giant.
In 2004, the concept of Littlest Pet Shop returned to toy shelves, however, rather than the strange mishmash of products that had previously been released by Kenner, the new LPS had a unified concept, the concept of bobbling heads. Though, the design philosophy of this new toyline would only be solified in late 2007-2008.
The brand fell off in 2012 with the release of the Generation 4 pets and death of the Generation 3 pets. Following this, the brand would steadily decline in popularity until it was discontinued in 2021. However, it would be brought back with a reproduction line in 2023 by toy manufacturer Basic Fun, dubbed Generation 7 by both fans and the company.
This page is an ode to Generations 2-3 with the occassional yap about Generaion 7, all of which I collect personally.
A lot of this history section took an embarrassing amount of research if you're interested in learning more about the original generation of LPS then please check out Sarafina's website Littlest Pet Shop Collector (LPSC) to find out more about them! While it hasn't been updated since 2014 it was still a valuable resource for my research and I hope it proves valuable for you, too!
As stated, I collect LPS. This is because I am a nerd. Here are some photos of my full collection.
